How it works

Set up in a few minutes. Your child sees every step.

Kinuvo has two apps: Kinuvo on your phone, where you decide, and Kinuvo Kids on your child’s Android phone, where your rules are applied. Here’s how they come together.

Two apps, working together.

Kinuvo app icon

Kinuvo

On your phone (Android)

Set rules, answer requests, and see alerts, reports and location.

Kinuvo Kids app icon

Kinuvo Kids

On your child’s Android phone (Android 7.0 or newer)

Applies your rules, shows your child what applies to them, and lets them ask or send an SOS.

The two phones never connect directly. Everything goes through Kinuvo’s secure service over encrypted connections.

Why your child needs Kinuvo Kids. Rules have to work on the phone they apply to, even when it’s offline. Kinuvo Kids makes that possible, and it’s visible, so your child always knows it’s there.

From download to a protected phone.

  1. 1

    Get Kinuvo.

Create your account with your name, email and a password. With no children yet, Home invites you to add one.

  2. 2

    Add your child.

Tap Add Child. Kinuvo shows a QR code and a pairing code, valid for 10 minutes. You never fill in a form about your child.

    Pairing code

    Example

    KIN-4F7K-9QPA

Scan the QR code or type this code in Kinuvo Kids. It works once, for 10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Pair Kinuvo Kids.

On your child’s Android phone, open Kinuvo Kids and scan the QR code, or type the code. Your child adds their name, picks one of eight avatars and their age, and you confirm you’re their parent or guardian.

Invalid, expired or already-used codes get a clear message. If a code expires, tap Add Child for a new one.

  4. 4

    Set up permissions together.

Kinuvo Kids walks through seven steps and explains each one in plain words before Android asks for it.

The seven setup steps on your child’s phone and what each is for
    Your child seesWhat it’s for
App UsageCounting time for the Daily Limit, App Limits and the App Usage report
App BreaksShowing limit and block screens, and protecting Kinuvo’s own settings. It never reads messages or what’s typed
LocationLatest location, history, place alerts and SOS location
    NotificationsReminders and SOS updates
Always ReadyKeeping protection running reliably in the background
Network SafetyWeb Protection and Internet Schedule, on the phone itself. No browsing history is kept
Keep Kinuvo OnMaking sure only a parent, with the Parent PIN, can remove Kinuvo
What your child reads before sharing location
“Kinuvo Kids collects location data so your approved family can see your recent or last known location and location history, and receive arrival or leave updates for places your family sets up, even when the app is closed or not in use. Your location is only shared with your approved family.”
  5. 5

    Choose your family’s rules.

Your child appears in your app automatically, with a few sensible starting settings:

    Web Protection
    On, with Adult Content blocked
    Night Screen Lock
Ready for 9 PM to 7 AM every day, off until you switch it on
    Daily Limit
Not set until you choose one
    Phone Lock
    Off
    Location
Shared once your child allows it

Start with a Daily Limit or bedtime, and add more whenever you’re ready.

  6. 6

    Kinuvo takes it from there.

Your rules go to your child’s phone, usually within seconds. Until the phone confirms a change, your app shows Waiting for device, so you always know where things stand.

Tip: set up together. It’s a good moment to talk about why you’re using Kinuvo, and to show your child the SOS button and “Ask for more time”.

Kinuvo Kids

What your child sees.

Kinuvo Kids is honest with your child. Their Dashboard shows today’s time, their next schedule, App Limits, blocked apps, Web Protection and that location is shared, with a way to ask for more time and an SOS tab.

“Kinuvo does not use Accessibility to read your messages, capture what you type, or record your screen.”
Shown before the Accessibility permission
“Kinuvo does not keep your full browsing history. When a site is blocked, it records the blocked site, reason, and time, which are shared with your approved family.”
Shown before the Network Protection permission
“Your location is only shared with your approved family.”

Calm screens, not punishment.

When an app is blocked, your child sees: “This app is currently blocked by your parent. You can use it again when your parent allows it.” Every screen offers a way home, and calls, Settings and the keyboard always work.

What your child can’t do.

Change or pause rules, see your app or reports, choose their own Bonus Time, or remove Kinuvo Kids without you.

Rules that don’t depend on Wi‑Fi.

Kinuvo Kids keeps your family’s rules on the phone. Limits, blocked apps, schedules, Phone Lock and Web Protection keep working without internet and after a restart.

Anything recorded offline, like app time or location, is sent when the phone reconnects, and SOS keeps trying until it gets through. Rule changes you make while the phone is offline arrive as soon as it’s back.

After setup.

New phone?Use Replace, pair the new phone, and every rule moves across.

More children?Add each one with their own code, rules and reports.

Two parents?Sign in to the same account on both phones; both get alerts.

Questions

All questions

How long does setup take?

A few minutes. Most of it happens on your child’s phone, where Kinuvo Kids explains seven permissions one at a time before Android asks for them.

Do I need to fill in my child’s details?

No. Your child’s name, avatar and age are entered on their phone during pairing. You can edit them later from your app.

What if we can’t scan the QR code, or the code expires?

Your child can type the pairing code instead of scanning it. Codes last 10 minutes and can be used once; if one expires, tap Add Child again for a new one.

What phones does Kinuvo work on?

The Kinuvo app for parents runs on Android. Kinuvo Kids, for your child’s phone, needs Android 7.0 or newer. There is no Kinuvo Kids for iPhone or iPad.

Can both parents use Kinuvo?

Yes. Sign in to the same Kinuvo account on each parent’s phone. Every signed-in phone gets alerts, requests and SOS. Separate co-parent accounts aren’t available.

Ready when your family is.
